I just have nothing to really talk about. I read LJ almost every day, though.
My grandpa turned 90. We had a family reunion to celebrate. I'm now the eldest cousin that hasn't sprogged and the number of times I had to put up with a variation of the comment "so when are you going to give your nephew a cousin???" was very high, but not that surprising. (I come from a very large extended family... I think there's 45 of us now or something like that... 10 cousins, 5 married, 1 divorced... all of them but me and the divorcee with 2-6 kids. Our family reunions resemble a child day care.)
It was fun to hang out with family, but ... only as fun as hanging out with family I have very little in common with can be, if you know what I mean.
Had a blast visiting mystin and amethystrinket over July 4th. I made burgers (well, mixed the spices and extras with the meat, someone else actually resolved that whole 'raw meat' thing by grilling them on the back porch) that were enjoyed by all. I may get adventurous with burgers again in the near future, we'll see.
Still absolutely nothing on the Allstate/basement issue. Still no lawyers calling us back. Still no useable basement. Still no TV/Wii.
Which means we're still camped out in the spare room upstairs and get to cuddle with the kitties on the bed while we play WoW. Silver lining and all that.

... Allstate refuses to cover anything, period, siting the fact that while "collapse" is covered under my policy, the sewer collapse was not a complete collapse of the house, therefor nothing they can do, so sorry, buh-bye. We got the "final" letter a few days ago.
Anyone know a good insurance lawyer in the STL area?

I've been bad about updating.
For the most part, it's 'cause there is very little for me to share with anyone. No new news on the insurance issue with the house, just a longer list of crap that needs to be done.
A few somewhat exciting things going on, but they're all WoW related, thus, as usual ( ... they are hidden. )

Still nothing new on the house. Allstate is still insisting we apparently dug up our basement for the hell of it. Sewer company is still trying to help, but they're slow due to important people being out sick for an extended period.
I'm ... less than thrilled.
Cats are happy about our computers being set up in the spare room, at least. Morgan has gotten into the habit of meeting me at the front door, then making a beeline for the guest bed, going "come on, time for cuddles! get up here!" and the like. Moth graces us with his presence and buries himself in the mass of blankets thrown about on the bed. It's about the only positive thing from this whole mess.
Managed to catch an old friend on googlechat a bit lately. He's stationed on Kuwait again (yes, hwutpa, it's who you think it is, I'm not naming names 'cause this is a public post)... which is why he's been so out of touch... but apparently they finally got internet access vaguely working and was nice to see he's still alive.
Nothing else exciting in my life, other than WoW stuff.
( Which, as always, gets a nice little cut to save those who don't care. )

Still nothing yet from Allstate. Trying not to hold my breath.
Found out this weekend that ARS Rescue Rooter - fabulous as they are - forgot to hook up my water softener again. Probably due to the less-than-settled concreate in the area where it was, but the concrete is all good now, so hopefully they'll be back out to hook it up soon. The Brit is calling to remind them today.
I got an amusing email today... from USA 3000 Airlines.
I got on their mailing list after booking a cheap-ass flight with them to Tampa (it was something like $150 round trip, per person, for The Brit and I to go for a weekend... amazing! the staff is a bit clueless, but the service was nothing to complain about and the flight was smooth) and I get a random email from them now and then with their latest specials. They aren't so great on tailoring them to my interests, though. I get a lot of specials that leave from random places up in the north east... which would cost me more to get to than I would save by taking their 'special' discounted rate.
So, back to today. I'm guessing there is some big football game in Tampa that's Tampa vs Pittsburgh. I don't follow sports, so please don't look at me like I'm retarded for not knowing what this game is. USA 3000 Airlines saw fit to inform me that for only $578 round trip, I can fly from Pittsburgh to Tampa just to see the game. Literally. The flight lands about an hour before the game starts and the return leaves half an hour past midnight.
Cue the o_O from my direction. Who would spend that kind of money to stay less than a full day? Especially when you've got game tickets to buy on top of that? Are there really sports fans who would see this as a good deal?
( Yet more WoW stuff, hidden behind the cut as always. )
Got to watch part of the inauguration ceremony for Obama, walked in just as they were announcing the 'simple gifts' music piece, stayed through his oath and his speech. I'm somewhat afraid to hope for too much, lest I end up bitter and dissapointed again (or should I say 'even more bitter' instead?), but man... Obama sure can deliver a good speech. Maybe it's his speech writer more than him, but it went over very well.
Time will tell.

So, happy new year and all that shit.
The ticking time bomb of the cast iron sewer under the house finally hit zero Dec 30th. The connection between the house and the sewer lateral collapsed, completely.
The basement is currently being jack hammered apart and has been in various states of utter deconstruction ever since. There is no working drainage at all, so The Brit and I stayed with some friends last night for new years. It's a slim hope that they will have enough of the new plastic pipe laid before they leave today for us to have a working bathroom.
I'm desperately trying to stay positive, but it's hard.
I still don't know what the total damage is going to be. The original estimate was $12,500 (not a typo!) for just the interior work, but then they hit a snag with part of the house not being up to proper codes and had to add more. I still don't know how much that is, I'm rather afraid to ask.
And I still have the joy of replacing the sewer lateral itself to look forward to.
... yay? =_=

I haven't much to say, just been a few weeks since I posted and figured I deserved another 'hey, yes, I am alive' type thing.
I'm getting daily updates (almost) from my sister on the baby. It's kinda scary and each update just underlines even more than the previous exactly why I don't want kids.
The latest was about his baptism and a "blowout" poo he had while in his white silk sunday finery. Oh boy. There were even pictures. Taken from the side before it was all "opened to the air" (so to speak) so, thankfully, all you see is the big poo-colored stain on the nice white clothes.
I'd rather clean up hairballs and the occasional cat-sick, thank you.
Spent Thanksgiving with friends in Kentucky and had a blast. The drive was a pain in the butt and the drive back was worse (thanks to a couple of nasty accidents, none of which we were involved in, but it did slow traffic down to a crawl), but it was worth it for a 4-day weekend spent geeking out with gamer friends.
And speaking of gaming...
( The inevitable WoW update. )
On a related, but slightly different note (thus why it's outside the lj-cut), I'm still writing wowfic rather regularly. Got a very nice story going for one of my Death Knight characters who will eventually end up created on jypsie's server. For a change of pace, I'm writing it in first-person, current ("I lift a hand [...]") point of view instead of my usual third-person, past ("She lifted a hand [...]"), which really is a rather huge challenge for me. It's harder than I thought it would be, but I'm really liking it so far.
I'll be posting it on my very much neglected jadeness journal soon as it's finished, and probably will be throwing up my other wowfic stories there, too. I'll post a note here when they're ready, for those that want to read them. I actually use crazy things like italics and bold, so it'll take me a while to convert the html properly.
That's about it. Nothing exciting in my life, for which I am most thankful indeed. :)

I survived a visit to meet my brand new nephew, actually held him - multiple times! - without dropping him or bursting into flames. He was surprisingly well behaved for a brand new baby and I am all the more sure that never, ever, will I spawn. Ever. Ever. Evereverever.
OMFG. Creeeeeeeeeeeeeeepy. o_o
I can't describe it.
Words fail me.
Don't get me wrong, the kid is perfectly normal and everyone loves him and my sister obviously is taking to motherhood in a wonderful way, but it is just SO. NOT. FOR. ME.
*twitch*
I will post pictures and links later, when I remember. Can't get to them from work.
Yesterday, aka "The Day WoW Stood Still" [for you non-WoW people... the game had severe issues yesterday that kept it completely offline for most of the day and when it did come back up, there were all sorts of problems], The Brit and I took the chance to watch most of Torchwood. We'd seen a few of the first episodes, but not really spent much time on it.
I wasn't impressed with it at first, but the last couple - They Keep Killing Suzie and Combat - were very close to amazing. I really like the acting, no complaints there at all, but the scripts/plots have some glaring holes in them now and then which irk me. We're down to two episodes left. Might watch them tonight before we head to the midnight release party for Wrath.
And now, for the inevitable...WoW Update. ( Hidden because I care so much about all of you who really don't. )

So this is vaguely WoW related, but since it's more of a creativity thing, I figure I can leave it outside a cut.
In an upcoming release, WoW is adding something called "achievements" to the game... basically cooky little things you do can earn you points. Some sets of achievements earn you a title.
I've got a Tauren Druid - for you non-WoW types, that's a anthropomorphic cow that uses nature-based magic and can used said magic to turn into different animals - that I haven't done much with in a long while. Her name is Fallingstar.
Fallingstar is, ironically, rather close to fulfilling all the requirements for the title Brewmaster.
I'm also tired of her name, but can't think of a better one.
For you non-WoW types, character names appear above the character's head with their 'guild name' (an affiliation of players, think of it like a club) in < > underneath, so her name in the game will appear as:
Brewmaster [name] <The Jaded>
Also, because I tend to be creatively attached to my characters, this little druid has a bit of an attitude. She's an engineer (decidedly non-druidic, since druids are WoW's version of tree-hugging hippies and engineering is as high-tech as WoW gets) and a drunkard, rather the rebellious sort. The name 'Fallingstar' just doesn't suit her anymore.
For a brief period, the name 'Jaded' was available, but someone beat me to it and now I can't rename her to that anymore. A druid named Jaded in the guild The Jaded amused me.
And so, that option now gone, I turn to you, the lovely creative people of my friend's list...
What sort of cute names can you come up with?
I don't mind puns or silly things for amusement factor, she isn't on an RP server and it's purely for my own enjoyment.

Almost unheard of, right?
Interesting math puzzle a friend sent me this morning, thought I'd post here for all of you to enjoy and try.
Add mathematic symbols in between the 3 numbers so that the equality is true.
You may not change the right side of the equation. Multiple symbols may be placed between two numbers if necessary. You may not add any extra numbers (except as a modifier to a symbol, such as exponentiation). 1 1 1 = 6 2 2 2 = 6 3 3 3 = 6 4 4 4 = 6 5 5 5 = 6 6 6 6 = 6 7 7 7 = 6 8 8 8 = 6 9 9 9 = 6
I figured out all but one on my own and that one was a palm-meet-forehead moment when I got the answer.
Comments screened so as not to give away answers, feel free to post your solutions (some have more than one)

( Just some more WoW SQUEE news, everyone else can ignore this ) I wish I had non-WoW news, but sadly... I don't. Not really.
mathnerd314, call me! I've tried to call you a few times and keep getting your voice mail. Hate leaving the "hi, just wanted to.. well.. say hi... uh, call me?" messages and haven't talked to you in ages. Just want to catch up, so give me a ring when you're not busy. All I do is play WoW anyway, so not like you'll be interrupting much. :P
(Except Thursdays... Thursdays I actually do REAL LIFE SOCIAL THINGS. o_o shocking ain't it?)

... toss me an email.
I've got a friend that's putting together a Warhammer guild and I'm going to attempt to get everyone I know who is thinking about playing the game at least on the same server. I don't want to go through the whole "OMG you play WoW too?! WHAT SERVER?! ... oh. not mine." thing again. :P
Will pass along the guild's forum website, etc.
At the moment, they're on the Tyrion server for the beta, but aren't sure if that's where they'll be come live release.
I'm still debating if I'm going to play or not. The lack of a mac client is a SEVERE downside for me. :( If I can manage to snag a beta invite from someone, I'm going to see if our spare PC will at least run the game well enough that I can take a poke at it and see if I like it.

For reference, previous post. Same restrictions apply.
All but two books are now claimed: A Time of Omens by Katherine Kerr The Dragon Revenant by Katherine Kerr
The list of 'still missing' items is growing.
Again, please pass the word along and get back to me as soon as possible so this only needs to be done once.

To keep complaints of drama to a minimum, this post is being left vague and comments are turned off.
Anyone it applies to will know immediately what I am talking about.
If you're confused, then it probably doesn't apply to you at all, but feel free to contact me off journal and ask to be sure.
A box of items was left at a friend's house a few nights ago containing a number of borrowed items. Most have been claimed, I've tried to call everyone who mentioned they had items they wanted back, but may have missed some.
There are 4 books unclaimed so far - two hard back, two soft back.
I have received a list from one person of another few books that are still missing, and at least one DVD was also missing for someone else, as well as at two other un-addressed issues.
If you believe I may have your books, if you believe you know who said books belong to, or if you are still missing items you wish to add to the list, please contact me via email, phone, or through a mutual friend.
All things considered, I think it's best to combine everything remaining into one single request and hopefully get this over and done with as fast as possible, for sanity's sake.

Sucks when they end.
Sucks even worse when it's a slow lead up of a shit load of brush-offs, ending in a "fuck you, never talk to me again" post on LJ and not even a personal text message like the last person that told me they no longer wanted me in their life.
Thanks for the morning cry. I needed it.
Not that you'll be reading this anyway.
[Comments turned off 'cause this is all I'm going to say about it in public. If anyone wants to talk about it, you know how to find me. I won't ignore anyone.]
