| So ... yeah, I'm not dead, I just don't do LJ much anymore. Someone gave me a not so subtle poke a few days ago and told me I should get back on LJ again, they missed keeping in touch.
I'll do my best, but no promises guys. XD
To catch up on the latest drama in my life...
The sewer collapse. Allstate's final answer was a big huge "fuck you" and the lawyers we talked to told us they'd LOVE to sue Allstate, but we didn't have better than a 50% chance of winning. So thus ... suck it up and deal. It took us more than a year, but we finally got the basement remodeled and we moved back in a few months ago. Brand new desks, brand new layout and it looks fucking amazing. Anyone in the STL area, if you need remodeling done of any sort, let me know and I will hook you up with this guy. They worked after hours/weekends, but it was amazingly cheap and amazingly awesome. The guys were polite, friendly, and fun. No complains about the results at all. It's lovely.
World of Warcraft ... I now have 5, soon to be 6, 80s on my main server. Warlock, Pally, Priest, Druid hordeside ... Shaman on alliance. And a level 76 pally on alliance as well (what can I say, I love the space goats). My rogue is level 70 and parked in Dalaran. My poor neglected (and twice deleted/restored!) nelf priest finally hit 60 and is parked in Hellfire. My belf DK is finally moving in levels, too. Got her to 62 and have been working on her professions in the old world before I go back to finishing BC content.
I'm still torn about the new expansion ... the game looks fucking amazing, but I'm one of those people where change is BAD. o_o The thing I hate the most is how much Orgrimmar has changed ... it's like I'm a brand new player again. "Nur... where da flight guy? How I get to UC?" >_<
Worst bit ... WoW no longer runs on my beloved laptop. No more traveling with my laptop to log in. So I'm hitting up Black Friday sales to get a gaming laptop ... Windows! /sob ... Yes, my dears, you heard right... I am finally, willingly, buying myself a windows machine instead of a mac. My current laptop is perfectly fine for everything I need a laptop to do ... except WoW. I can't justify spending $3k on a laptop just to play my favorite video game.
Someday, I'll be able to forgive myself. XD
Thankfully, beyond WoW and the basement drama, my life has been boring. I'm happy about this.

| Someone get me that animated gif (or maybe the original was a flash, I've no idea) of the stick figure beating themselves bloody on their computer keyboard, complete with the yo-yo-ing eyeball as their head disintegrates.
That about describes work for me these days.
OMFG.
Details later, when I have time to breathe.

| Ganked from ... elsewhere on LJ
The first TEN people to comment in this post get to request a brief story of any pairing/character (with a prompt) of their choosing from me.* In return, they have to post this in their journal, regardless of their ability level. Of course, reposting not required!
I've been wanting to write more lately and have had a complete failure of ideas. Pick whatever you like, but if it's a genre/show/universe I know little to nothing about, be prepared with a back up or a looooooot of back ground info (or accept a completely out-of-character story, either one).
Original characters of your own creation are perfectly acceptable, provided you meet the universe requirements above or allow me to stuff them into a different world.
No promises on length or when the story will be delivered, but the first 10 people will get something eventually. You can even choose if you want the story posted privately or publicly on LJ. | comments: 5 comments or Leave a comment |
| I just have nothing to really talk about. I read LJ almost every day, though.
My grandpa turned 90. We had a family reunion to celebrate. I'm now the eldest cousin that hasn't sprogged and the number of times I had to put up with a variation of the comment "so when are you going to give your nephew a cousin???" was very high, but not that surprising. (I come from a very large extended family... I think there's 45 of us now or something like that... 10 cousins, 5 married, 1 divorced... all of them but me and the divorcee with 2-6 kids. Our family reunions resemble a child day care.)
It was fun to hang out with family, but ... only as fun as hanging out with family I have very little in common with can be, if you know what I mean.
Had a blast visiting mystin and amethystrinket over July 4th. I made burgers (well, mixed the spices and extras with the meat, someone else actually resolved that whole 'raw meat' thing by grilling them on the back porch) that were enjoyed by all. I may get adventurous with burgers again in the near future, we'll see.
Still absolutely nothing on the Allstate/basement issue. Still no lawyers calling us back. Still no useable basement. Still no TV/Wii.
Which means we're still camped out in the spare room upstairs and get to cuddle with the kitties on the bed while we play WoW. Silver lining and all that. | comments: 3 comments or Leave a comment |

| ... Allstate refuses to cover anything, period, siting the fact that while "collapse" is covered under my policy, the sewer collapse was not a complete collapse of the house, therefor nothing they can do, so sorry, buh-bye. We got the "final" letter a few days ago.
Anyone know a good insurance lawyer in the STL area? | comments: 9 comments or Leave a comment |
| I've been bad about updating.
For the most part, it's 'cause there is very little for me to share with anyone. No new news on the insurance issue with the house, just a longer list of crap that needs to be done.
A few somewhat exciting things going on, but they're all WoW related, thus, as usual ( ... they are hidden. ) | comments: 7 comments or Leave a comment |
| Still nothing new on the house. Allstate is still insisting we apparently dug up our basement for the hell of it. Sewer company is still trying to help, but they're slow due to important people being out sick for an extended period.
I'm ... less than thrilled.
Cats are happy about our computers being set up in the spare room, at least. Morgan has gotten into the habit of meeting me at the front door, then making a beeline for the guest bed, going "come on, time for cuddles! get up here!" and the like. Moth graces us with his presence and buries himself in the mass of blankets thrown about on the bed. It's about the only positive thing from this whole mess.
Managed to catch an old friend on googlechat a bit lately. He's stationed on Kuwait again (yes, hwutpa, it's who you think it is, I'm not naming names 'cause this is a public post)... which is why he's been so out of touch... but apparently they finally got internet access vaguely working and was nice to see he's still alive.
Nothing else exciting in my life, other than WoW stuff.
( Which, as always, gets a nice little cut to save those who don't care. ) | comments: 4 comments or Leave a comment |
| Still nothing yet from Allstate. Trying not to hold my breath.
Found out this weekend that ARS Rescue Rooter - fabulous as they are - forgot to hook up my water softener again. Probably due to the less-than-settled concreate in the area where it was, but the concrete is all good now, so hopefully they'll be back out to hook it up soon. The Brit is calling to remind them today.
I got an amusing email today... from USA 3000 Airlines.
I got on their mailing list after booking a cheap-ass flight with them to Tampa (it was something like $150 round trip, per person, for The Brit and I to go for a weekend... amazing! the staff is a bit clueless, but the service was nothing to complain about and the flight was smooth) and I get a random email from them now and then with their latest specials. They aren't so great on tailoring them to my interests, though. I get a lot of specials that leave from random places up in the north east... which would cost me more to get to than I would save by taking their 'special' discounted rate.
So, back to today. I'm guessing there is some big football game in Tampa that's Tampa vs Pittsburgh. I don't follow sports, so please don't look at me like I'm retarded for not knowing what this game is. USA 3000 Airlines saw fit to inform me that for only $578 round trip, I can fly from Pittsburgh to Tampa just to see the game. Literally. The flight lands about an hour before the game starts and the return leaves half an hour past midnight.
Cue the o_O from my direction. Who would spend that kind of money to stay less than a full day? Especially when you've got game tickets to buy on top of that? Are there really sports fans who would see this as a good deal?
( Yet more WoW stuff, hidden behind the cut as always. )
Got to watch part of the inauguration ceremony for Obama, walked in just as they were announcing the 'simple gifts' music piece, stayed through his oath and his speech. I'm somewhat afraid to hope for too much, lest I end up bitter and dissapointed again (or should I say 'even more bitter' instead?), but man... Obama sure can deliver a good speech. Maybe it's his speech writer more than him, but it went over very well.
Time will tell. | comments: 3 comments or Leave a comment |

| So, happy new year and all that shit.
The ticking time bomb of the cast iron sewer under the house finally hit zero Dec 30th. The connection between the house and the sewer lateral collapsed, completely.
The basement is currently being jack hammered apart and has been in various states of utter deconstruction ever since. There is no working drainage at all, so The Brit and I stayed with some friends last night for new years. It's a slim hope that they will have enough of the new plastic pipe laid before they leave today for us to have a working bathroom.
I'm desperately trying to stay positive, but it's hard.
I still don't know what the total damage is going to be. The original estimate was $12,500 (not a typo!) for just the interior work, but then they hit a snag with part of the house not being up to proper codes and had to add more. I still don't know how much that is, I'm rather afraid to ask.
And I still have the joy of replacing the sewer lateral itself to look forward to.

| I haven't much to say, just been a few weeks since I posted and figured I deserved another 'hey, yes, I am alive' type thing.
I'm getting daily updates (almost) from my sister on the baby. It's kinda scary and each update just underlines even more than the previous exactly why I don't want kids.
The latest was about his baptism and a "blowout" poo he had while in his white silk sunday finery. Oh boy. There were even pictures. Taken from the side before it was all "opened to the air" (so to speak) so, thankfully, all you see is the big poo-colored stain on the nice white clothes.
I'd rather clean up hairballs and the occasional cat-sick, thank you.
Spent Thanksgiving with friends in Kentucky and had a blast. The drive was a pain in the butt and the drive back was worse (thanks to a couple of nasty accidents, none of which we were involved in, but it did slow traffic down to a crawl), but it was worth it for a 4-day weekend spent geeking out with gamer friends.
And speaking of gaming...
( The inevitable WoW update. )
On a related, but slightly different note (thus why it's outside the lj-cut), I'm still writing wowfic rather regularly. Got a very nice story going for one of my Death Knight characters who will eventually end up created on jypsie's server. For a change of pace, I'm writing it in first-person, current ("I lift a hand [...]") point of view instead of my usual third-person, past ("She lifted a hand [...]"), which really is a rather huge challenge for me. It's harder than I thought it would be, but I'm really liking it so far.
I'll be posting it on my very much neglected jadeness journal soon as it's finished, and probably will be throwing up my other wowfic stories there, too. I'll post a note here when they're ready, for those that want to read them. I actually use crazy things like italics and bold, so it'll take me a while to convert the html properly.
That's about it. Nothing exciting in my life, for which I am most thankful indeed. :) | comments: 23 comments or Leave a comment |
